Stehekin Anniversary:)

Well....3 years down and we have never been happier.  Kevin and I have a deal, every other year it is the other person's job to plan for the anniversary.  This year was Kevin's, and it was an amazing one.

Let me tell you about a little place called Stehekin, WA.  Accessible only by boat via Lake Chelan, it is one of most amazing little places on this earth (RIGHT in our backyard).  We woke up a couple of weekends ago and embarked on our anniversary adventure.  We had company for our actual anniversary so we spent it the 3rd weekend in Sept, it was also the only time we could get a reservation.

Anyways, back to my story.  We drove the 35 minutes it takes to get to Lake Chelan and boarded the Lady of the Lake II, the faster of the 2 ferries.  At the end of the 2 1/2 hour ride down 55 miles of scenic beauty ---is Stehekin.

I'm really trying to not make this post too long, but there is so much to say about this magical town of 150 people.  We rented a cabin on the lake and spent the weekend riding beach cruisers lakeside, horseback riding, eating from the delicious bakery every morning and meeting the locals.  There is a local family that has been in this town 4 generations....the Courtney's.  We met many of them during the weekend.  They drove the bus out to the beautiful ranch where we ate one night and they also own almost all of the businesses in town (I think there is 4). Ironically we were there during the "wedding of the century," according to locals.  One of the Courtney girls got married..and she was a COUG!

Let's just say, we had an amazing weekend.  It really put in perspective how lavish our lifestyles can be compared to their simple and hard-working lifestyles.  Never met happier people.  We loved it here and couldn't believe how fast our weekend went.  I even hugged Kathy, the owner who rented us our cabin at the end of the weekend, she really made us feel at home.

PLEASE FRIENDS...we need to spend a weekend here together.  I know you would all love it.
